Yoga Class: Screw a Six-Pack. Let's focus on Awakening Your Core Power

A short but fiery core-focused vinyasa yoga practice for awakening inner power.

Hey beautiful people!

I don’t know about you but it’s wild to me that in 2024, with all the body positivity talk, there is still unnecessary emphasis on having a “summer body.” Gross, ay? And let me not even begin to talk about the Ozempic craze (I mean, I can absolutely talk about this as an eating disorder survivor if you’d like…just let me know in the comments). It’s all hella tragic to me how our society continues to convince women in particular to shrink, whatever the cost.

My intention for this practice is not to help you achieve a flat stomach but instead to help you awaken the intelligence of your center aka your gut aka your solar plexus aka your Chi. A deeper connection to your core unlocks inner wisdom which allows you to have an intimate relationship with mind, body and spirit. Discernment grows stronger. Your inner voice gets louder. And your gut instinct is more powerful than ever. All helpful tools while navigating this wild thing called life.

Even on a scientific level, focusing on the core does some brilliant things for both the mind and body. A six-pack is a bonus if that’s your thing but honestly, I’d rather keep my mental health and intuition intact rather than a strict diet and a flat stomach. Here are some fun, neuroscienctific facts about your gut that may inspire you to work it out for reasons other than societal approval:

5 Reasons Heating Up Your Core is Powerful:

  1. Over 100 million neurons line the gastrointestinal tract; the gut is the body’s enteric nervous system aka your second brain

  2. Research suggests that the digestive system affects cognition; thinking skills and memory

  3. The gut has the capacity to act independently from the brain; it can function without the brain and can learn, remember and produce “gut feelings.”

  4. The gut is rich in iron due to having a high volume of blood. Stimulating the gut is powerful because just like when you heat a piece of iron the gut can magnetizes just like iron to material or for a human to a person place or thing. So basically you can magnetize yourself to what you are seeking!

  5. Working the gut can ease gastrointestinal issues such as IBS, along with Alzheimer’s and even Dementia.

I chose to create this short class to help leave you feeling strong and centered in your body. Short enough where you could add another movement routine before or after this one but long enough where you could leave feeling complete. It’s a fast flow so really focus on your breath, listen to your body and do whatever is accessible. Also, feel free to place a blanket under your knees for extra padding if needed.

If ever you are feeling lost or disconnected to Self, if you feel tempted to do something that in the end may not serve you, a practice that focuses on your core is a great way to return home to Self. Also, although this class is fast paced breathing exercises, any form of yoga and really any form of movement that heats the core is an excellent way to awaken the power at the navel!
