Get Back on that Yoga Mat Because We Ain't Neglecting Ourselves
A 14-minute audio-only yoga practice for realignment & return because sometimes you just need something short and sweet to remember who you are.
Dear Ones,
Lately, Spirit has been whispering to me to get back on that yoga mat! Ok maybe it's been yelling at me. And to be honest, I’m grateful for this reprimand because I haven’t unrolled my yoga mat (that also needed a proper cleaning which I finally found time to do!) since (coughs and clears throat) April. Basically four months of neglect.
April 8th to be exact at 5:30pm. Me and baby girl flowed for about 16 minutes before it was time for a feed. Bless us.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Yoga somehow (well I actually know how) got pushed to last on my list which ended up being never. I’ve taken walks. I’ve swam in the ocean several times. I’ve dropped into a quick squat here and there; a little twist or brief pigeon pose or forward fold after I put baby down. But my body has needed more attention. Especially after carrying around a 20-pound human all day and then co-sleeping and contorting all night to get some rest while simultaneously breastfeeding. Bless my spine.
So with loving intention, and when baby goes down for the night so I can practice uninterrupted, I’ve been finding my way back onto the mat, with love and care. I practiced three times this past week which ain’t so bad considering how full and often intense my days have been. I’ve been feeling stretched thin y’all. How about you?
Finding my breath and allowing my body to guide me has felt so damn good. A rebellion if you will. A promise to myself that I will always find my way back, no matter the circumstance. I will not lose myself just because I am a mother and life has changed in wildly drastic ways.
I always tell myself that when you fall off of your practice, it’s a reminder that you are still in practice because you are aware enough to know that you fell off. Make sense?
Awareness is the first step to change.
I rarely take my own classes because listening to my voice is distracting but for some reason I found a short, audio-only practice that I recorded over three years ago and decided to press play. It’s just under 14 minutes of gentle movement, breath, and reconnection. It’s a slow standing flow so you don’t even need a mat. I followed along with eyes closed, no need to stare at a screen.
I wanted to share it here with you, because maybe you’re also trying to come back to yourself after not prioritizing your needs. Maybe you’re carrying more than anyone can see. Maybe you just need to feel your feet on the ground again.
This practice is for that.
You don’t need a yoga mat. You don’t need to be flexible. You just need a little space to breathe and just be.
Sending this with love from me and from the quiet courage it takes to begin again.
With Love and deep breaths,
Sara
